Assistant Locksmith and Automotive Locksmith Technician
Looking for a motivated and driven individual to learn and benefit from a skilled trade with the goal of establishing a career in locksmithing with Ashland Lock & Key LLC. This position requires training in specific methods and tools to be proficient in general locksmithing, automotive and vehicle lockouts, key originations, and key duplications. The manager will set-up a training schedule based on previous experience, knowledge, and familiarity of locksmithing tools and technology. Once trained, this position will be expected to independently complete job tickets and emergency calls based on a combination of scheduled in-shop and on-call hours.

Previous Experience:
- Locksmithing preferred, will train.
- Customer service: in-person, phone/text, and email communications.
- Familiar with basic tools.
- Wood & metal working skills are a plus.
- Familiarity with vehicle diagnostics and mechanics are a plus.
- Opening shop.
- Share routine shop cleaning tasks as instructed.
- Customer service.
- Answer the shop phone.
- Create new job tickets from walk-ins, phone calls, & emails.
- Create invoices, sales receipts, and handle payments with cash, check, and credit card processing.
- Basic locksmith services for customers. For example, key duplications.
- Close shop.
- Communicate with the manager regarding changes in schedules, stock availability, price adjustments, or other miscellaneous reasons why there might be issues with your job ticket.
- Communicate with the manager regarding low or missing inventory as needed.
- Complete and submit a weekly log of inventory used.
- Installs, services, and repairs various types of locks and security devices.
- Installs and repairs door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures.
- Disassembles locks; repairs and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
- Cuts new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Maintain and ensure proper functioning of your work tools and work vehicle.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains both mechanical locking and electronic locks.
- Responsible for all automotive lockouts, emergency and scheduled.
- Responsible for all automotive key originations, emergency and scheduled.
- Responsible for automotive key duplications, emergency and scheduled.
- Assist with scheduled residential and commercial installations and maintenance as needed.
- Assist with emergency and scheduled non-automotive lockouts.
- Efficiency in giving good and practical advice and making sound decisions when needed.
Requirements
- Must have valid drivers license and reliable transportation with current minimum vehicle insurance. We will have company work vehicles for use on the job.
- Comfortable with online research and referencing printed material.
- Must be available to travel to a week-long intensive locksmith foundations classes once the probationary period is complete. Depending on the actual schedule, we’re hoping to send you to North Carolina April 24-May 1.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Compensation & Time Commitment
- Compensation is hourly with beginning base-pay is $15.83/hour for in-shop or on-site work hours. We will increase the base-pay based on previous experience. Overtime offered as needed and pre-approved by management.
- $2.50/hour while on-call with and increase to base-pay hourly-rate when servicing an emergency call. Paid bi-weekly. Pay raises based on training aptitude and performance.
- During the probationary phase, you will be required to work a minimum of 21 hours a week.
- Once you have completed the National Locksmith Institute week-long training, required hours will increase to 40 hours a week in-shop handling job tickets, walk-ins, and shadowed ride alongs. you will also be required to complete our additional automotive locksmith technician training program.
- The manager will determine when you will graduate into the full-time on-call and in-shop schedule, see schedule on last page:
- Once trained, the on-call schedule will be:
- Begins 5:00pm Friday until 10:00am Monday
- 5:00pm Wednesday until 10:00am Thursday
- 5:00pm Thursday until 10:00am Friday
- In-shop schedule is flexible and can be worked out with the manager as needed to complete training and work orders. We expect the most demand for your in-shop schedule to be Wednesday-Friday 10:00am-5:00pm.
